2024 Recalls That Can Affect Your Dealership

Written by Victor H. | Jun 27, 2024 7:52:48 PM

We’re halfway through 2024 and the automotive industry has experienced 3 major recalls. We’re going to break down what vehicles have been recalled, the reasons why, and how your dealership can be affected.

What Vehicles Have Been Recalled in 2024?

The following vehicle models have been recalled:

  • Ford F-150 models produced from June 17th, 2013 - December 23rd, 2014.
  • 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander
  • 2024 Lexus TX

Ford F-150

On June 25th, 2024, Ford recalled 552,188 F-150 pickup trucks produced from June 17th, 2013 - December 23rd, 2014. Ford issued a statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that states the recalls are due to transmission issues.

These transmissions can unexpectedly downshift to first gear. Depending on the vehicle speed, ‌an abrupt transmission downshift to first gear could occur, which may cause loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of crashing.

You can notice a downshift to first gear when a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) appears. In some cases, the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation.

A Malfunction Indicator Light may indicate a downshift to first gear.

The recall does not affect vehicles in a certain VIN number range, so the Ford company is asking people to call its toll-free number or contact a local Ford dealership to find out if their truck is part of the recall.

Toll-free number: 1-866-436-7332

Ford expects repairs to be available in the third quarter of this year. Notifications to dealers will begin on June 17th, 2024. Notifications to owners will be between July 1st, 2024 - July 5th, 2024.

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander / 2024 Lexus TX

On June 20th, 2024, Toyota recalled certain 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX models due to problems with their airbags. According to a statement from Toyota, “the curtain shield airbag on the driver’s side may not deploy as intended during certain crashes if the driver’s window is rolled down.”

Toyota said they are currently working on a solution and that customers will be notified of this issue by the middle of August 2024.

Around 145,000 vehicles are involved in this recall. To see if your vehicle is on the list, visit https://www.toyota.com/recall or https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.

Customers with additional questions can call the Toyota Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-331-4331 or the Lexus Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-255-3987.

How Do These Recalls Affect My Dealership?

If the recalled vehicle models make up a significant portion of your inventory, then your dealership’s sales may take a dip. If sales are affected, you’ll take a loss in revenue and may end up with excess inventory.

Understanding the importance of the recent recalls can help you adjust your inventory and navigate through the situation.
