Have you ever missed a new episode of your favorite show and felt sad? Then, by luck, the episode came on again and you were able to watch it before someone spoiled it for you? That’s what a second chance sale is like for auto auction buyers and sellers.
Big Valley Auto Auction has been around since 2008 and we’ve had our Auction Day sale every Thursday since. In December of 2022, we started our Second Chance sale, which takes place later that same day.
If you’ve only been to our morning sale, or didn’t even know there was a second sale, we’re going to give you a second chance to learn about the 3 benefits for sellers and 3 benefits for buyers Big Valley’s Second Chance sale offers and how it can potentially assist in your business’ success.
What Are the Dealer Benefits of Big Valley Auto Auction’s Second Chance Sale?
Big Valley’s Second Chance sale starts at 4:00 PM every Thursday. You do have the chance to view the vehicles before the sale, but by 2:00 PM, the auction is about 40% to 50% occupied with vehicles, and we continue to add vehicles up until 3:30 PM.
Just like taking back your ex-partner, Big Valley Auto Auction’s Second Chance sale gives you that extra moment to realize what you may have missed the first time.
The Second Chance sale offers 3 main benefits for sellers and 3 for buyers. First, we’ll go over the seller's benefits.
Benefit 1: Second Opportunity to Sell Your Vehicle at Big Valley Auto Auction
One pro of Big Valley’s Second Chance sale is that it gives sellers a second opportunity to auction off the inventory that didn’t sell during the first sale.
The time between the first sale and second also gives the seller a chance to adjust their pricing if they think the asking price is playing a role in preventing a sale. Sometimes dealers will believe the reason their vehicle isn’t selling is due to the asking price being too high. If they’re just trying to make space for new inventory, they may lower the price.
Benefit 2: Participate In a Big Valley Auto Auction During Afternoon Hours
Our Second Chance sale benefits dealers who aren’t able to leave their office during the day for the first sale. Most dealers have to stay at their location to keep business running, but are available later in their shift. This sale gives them the same benefits as the first sale, at a more convenient time.
Benefit 3: Display Your Inventory to a Different Big Valley Auto Auction Audience
This sale gives dealers an opportunity to display their inventory in front of buyers who weren’t in attendance for the first sale. Second Chance buyers usually couldn’t attend the first sale because of work, or they just prefer participating in a smaller crowd.
What Are the Buyer Benefits of Big Valley Auto Auction’s Second Chance Sale?
Sellers aren’t the only ones who benefit from this second sale. Buyers get 3 major benefits as well.
Benefit 1: Second Opportunity to Buy From Big Valley Auto Auction
The same way that some sellers may not be able to leave the office for the first sale, so do some buyers. If you’re occupied during business hours, you’ll still be able to purchase later in the day.
The Second Chance sale also gives buyers an opportunity to bid on units that either didn’t sell or units they may have missed the first time. While the first sale runs approximately 500 units, the Second Chance sale runs 80-100 units. This may be less inventory, but the sale still offers a variety of vehicles.
Benefit 2: Potentially Lower Prices Than Big Valley Auto Auction’s First Sale
Another potential pro about our Second Chance sale is that bids might start lower than they do at the first sale. Prices tend to go higher during the first sale because multiple bidders compete to get the same vehicles, which causes prices to rise.
During the first sale, sellers have a set asking price and stick with it until someone reaches that price or negotiates with bids that are near what they’re asking. If the seller doesn’t make the sale the first time, they may realize the issue was they asked for too much, so they drop their price to a more reasonable amount.
Benefit 3: Less Competition Than Big Valley Auto Auction’s First Sale
Speaking of multiple bidders, another pro for buyers is there is less competition than the first sale. Some buyers who attended the first sale don’t stay for the second sale, giving Second Chance buyers less competition when it comes to bidding.
With less inventory available, this also cuts down the run time of the sale. While the first sale usually lasts around 3-4 hours, the Second Chance sale lasts around 1 hour.
Should I Attend Big Valley’s Second Chance Sale?
If you’re someone who doesn’t mind waiting a week to see a rerun of your favorite show, then you might be fine waiting another week to buy a vehicle. However, if you suffer from the fear of missing out, Big Valley Auto Auction’s Second Chance sale will give you the opportunity to catch what you may have missed.
Now that you know the 3 benefits for sellers and 3 benefits for buyers that Big Valley’s Second Chance sale offers, you can decide if you’re willing to take part. Whether you’re unable to attend our first sale, or you’re just not a morning person, you can check out our Second Chance sale in-lane or online to make a purchase just in time.
