In the words of Mr. Freeze from Batman and Robin, “In this universe, there is only one absolute: Everything freezes.” Apparently, Mr Freeze has never been to an auto auction, because there is another absolute in this universe: Absolute vehicles.

Since 2008, Big Valley Auto Auction has had thousands of vehicles come through our gates. While we can't guarantee the sale of every vehicle, we can confidently assure you that absolute vehicles will always sell. But what is an absolute vehicle?

In this article, you’re going to learn what an absolute vehicle is and the pros and cons that come with them.

After reading this article, you’ll have the information needed to fully understand what an absolute vehicle is and if they’re worth the investment.

What is an Absolute?

An absolute is a vehicle that will sell no matter what. Whether the sale price is $1.00 or $100,000, it’s going to sell. Absolutes tend to be vehicles that hadn’t sold in the past, but the dealer still wants them to be sold.

What are the Pros and Cons of Absolutes?

Although absolute vehicles are guaranteed to sell, there is no guarantee that they will be in great condition. Here are the pros and cons absolute vehicles bring to the table.

Pros

One benefit buyers get from buying an absolute vehicle is you can get it for a cheaper, more reasonable price. (Maybe not $1.00, but a decent price nonetheless.)

Absolute vehicles also tend to draw a bigger crowd, which is great for sellers because this could lead to more profit. If you’re selling an absolute vehicle, it’s best to bring your vehicle to the auction as soon as possible so more dealers can check it out and decide if they’re interested in buying the unit.

Cons

A potential downside of buying an absolute vehicle is that they might have issues that could cost a lot of money to fix. That is why it’s important to keep in mind that these vehicles are considered “buyer beware”. Contact your local auction for preview day and hours.

Is an Absolute Eligible for Arbitration?

You can only arbitrate an absolute vehicle for a late title or a non-working title. Everything else is as-is no arbitration.

Can I Negotiate the Price of an Absolute?

Absolute vehicles are non-negotiable and cannot be put on call. They will be sold on the block no matter what the bid is.

Should I Buy an Absolute Vehicle?

Absolute vehicles are always going to sell. In some cases, they could be a great investment, However, it’s best to consider the pros and cons before making a purchase.

Whether you’re preparing to attend your first auto auction or you recently saw an auto auction promoting absolutes, you can use this article as a guide to help you decide if an absolute vehicle is right for you.
